Welcome Note

Dear Colleagues,

The Association of Hair Restoration Surgeons, India is happy to announce its eleventh annual meeting - HAIRCON 2020, to be held in Mumbai from 6th to 8th of March 2020 at the Novotel, Mumbai. The meeting is being conducted under the presidency of Dr. Lakshyajit Dhami with Dr. Sandeep Sattur as the Organizing Chairman.

The hair restoration specialty has matured in a very interesting and unique way. While, on the one hand it is challenging and requires an elaborate set of clinical and aesthetic skills, on the other hand, it is friendly and welcoming to newcomers. When we look back over the years, we realize that much of what has contributed to our evolution as a specialty could be summed up in just a few simple, yet telling, words – “learning, sharing and growing”, a fitting theme for - HAIRCON 2020.

The field of hair restoration is evolving at a rapid speed especially on the technological front. Increased patient demand and constant innovations along with a decreased barrier to entry into a field that previously required surgical skills, has led high numbers of FUE procedures being performed the world over. On the downside the lowered barrier to the specialty has brought with it a large number of unethical practices like proxy/ghost surgery, unindicated surgery, overharvesting and misleading advertisements. Moreover, invalidated and ineffective hair loss treatments are being promoted.

The main objective of this conference is to ‘separate wheat from chaff’ so to say, where the approach to and management of a hair loss patient is concerned. Keeping this in mind and based on the feedback from delegates, the conference format is being changed. Keeping the didactic sessions to the bare minimum, the highlight will be the numerous panel discussions with significant delegate participation. The whole idea is to generate consensus opinions or position statements on various important topics in hair restoration, at the end of each panel discussion. We have chosen this approach based on cooperative learning techniques which provide opportunities for problem solving, discussion, and consensus building, albeit in a conference scenario. The Scientific Committee headed by Dr. Rajesh Rajput and assisted by Dr. Anil Garg along with Dr. Mayank Singh, Dr. Sukhbir Singh and Dr. Muthuvel Kumarasen is busy working to create a wonderful scientific program.

We are having on board a faculty of experienced hair transplant surgeons and academicians both from the country and visiting. However, the delegates are expected to make the biggest contribution by raising questions and contributing your opinions.
